Studio - Merekivi, Kuressaare, Saaremaa, Estonia

Studio - Merekivi Nicely decorated apartment in Kuressaare, Saaremaa is waiting for you! You can accommodate max 4 persons. Will have everything you need to have a good stay - clean bed linen and towels, equipped kitchen, private entrance, grill and terrace. If you need to accommodate your bags or something else, you can keep them in basement (separate entrance). There is also big shared garden (5000m2), where you can enjoy free time with your friends / family. Apartment is 20min walk from city centre. No cars, very quiet neighbourhood. Only fox crossing the street :) Chill and quiet place to stay. At the same time close to Kuressaare old town with famous Kuressaare castle (Schloss Arensburg) and Town park from 14 century. Medieval castle is best preserved in the Baltic states. The grounds are free to enter but the castle houses the Regional Museum of Saaremaa which costs €2. Viewed from above, the castle is geometrically perfect, a diamond shape with substantial moat all the way around. There is even a portcullis. The museum inside is on three levels and details rural life in Saaremaa over the ages. This part of Estonia has held onto its traditions far more than any part of the country during the soviet era. There is a small chapel inside and you must head up to the roof where you can walk all the way around and have fine views of the Baltic Sea. 15min drive to Kaali Meteorite Crater. One of the very few places in the world where you can see a Meteorite Crater. It is worth getting the bus out here from Kuressaare and sitting and contemplating what it must have been like when this was formed 4000 years ago. There are 9 craters here, the largest is the only one worth looking at as the others are quite overgrown. Steps lead you up the slope which was created by material thrown out by the meteor. From the rim you see a perfectly circular pool whose water level changes due to rain. Inside it is very peaceful and quite echoey. Steps lead down to the waters edge and there are signs which explain all the statistic about the meteor. How fast it travelled, when it hit and how large it was. This is a unique attraction and a must if you are spending time on Saaremaa. 30min drive to Angla windmills. It is the only one remaining windmill hill on Saaremaa. In 1925, when the village of Angla consisted of 13 farms, there were nine windcatchers on the hill. 20min walk to one of the best SPAs in Estonia - Georg Ots and Grand Rose Spa. 30min by postboat to Abruka island - the site of a Central European-type broadleaf forest, which is rare in the region. Theres a library (located in the harbour building) and a museum which is located on the side of the former manor park in the oldest building on Abruka (The Abruka House). With a surface area of 8.8 square kilometres, it is surrounded by a further sixteen small islands which are home to a wide variety of aquatic bird life. You can get to Abruka from Kuressaare, which is on Saaremaa, and the gap between the two is only five kilometres, making it the perfect distance for kayaking in summer or hiking across the ice in winter. Between spring and autumn (this being when theres no ice) there are also regular boat connections between Kuressaare and Abruka (3€). If you are lucky, you will hear or maybe even see Saaremaa cows, spending their time on hay field :)...
